Children & Youth
At Oakhurst Baptist Church, we view children and youth as valuable, active voices in the present life of the church. While these individuals will carry us into the future, they play a significant role in the world and in the life of our congregation now. We offer age-appropriate classes on Sunday mornings and various weekly and annual activities throughout the year for our children and youth. Our annual calendar of events seeks to provide appropriate development in terms of theology, faith, community engagement, social justice and mission involvement, intergenerational interactions, spirituality, and fun for children and youth.
When you visit our worship services for the first time, you might notice our playground where children can participate in the worship service through play. In this area, children will find soft pillows for floor sitting, manipulative toys for “busy listeners,” coloring and drawing sheets, and child friendly prayer guides.
Each week during the worship service there is a moment for children that offers a story or lesson specifically geared toward a child’s imagination and understanding. Once a month, generally on the first Sunday, children are invited to participate in Worship Education during the worship service with one of our pastors to learn more about our faith practices.
Youth
Youth Church School meets every Sunday from 9:45-10:45 in the Youth Room on the First Floor Education Wing. Youth also gather for a monthly event with fun and faith formation. During school breaks, youth will regularly participate in Serve and Play days where they will engage in service activities with our mission partners and do something fun around town.
